JÔRING, SCANDINAVIAN PULKA
If you wish to leave the beaten paths, these two acitivities might be just what you’re looking for.
The Nordic atmosphere of solidly harnessed horse-drawn sleighs or exotic Jöring style skiing in which the skiers are directly pulled by a horse will remind you of the film "Dr. Zhivago". Combining horse and skier is an original way of discovering winter sport.
In the Scandinavian Pulka, the dogs are hitched up to the skiers. It is an original way of experiencing snowswept countrysides for several hours or for a whole week. But be sure to book beforehand, this type of sport is extremely popular. The Jura Mountains can also give you the chance of becoming a ‘musher’, of guiding your own sleigh. Or else you can always witness eskimo dog packs as they perform for the public at the Odyssée Blanche in Chaux Neuve (03 81 69 69 20 20) or go on peaceful hikes, lodged comfortably in a sleigh drawn by dogs or by Comtois horses.
